Christmas Memories
This time of year brings out my nostalgic side in a big way. While I was in the car yesterday, I heard a DJ asking people about their Christmas memories. It’s interesting that most of my memories aren’t associated with gifts – giving or receiving. Mine are more about family.One of my earliest Christmas memories is of going to my grandmother’s house where the younger generation of cousins ate in the breakfast area while the adults sat at the table in the dining room. We actually enjoyed that cozy nook. Although my grandmother cooked just about everything from scratch, every year she bought special baked cakes shaped like Santa or a snowman. I remember what I loved about these cakes was that they were covered with icing all
the way around! Sweet!I also remember driving home from one of my grandparents’ homes on Christmas night. We’d been hit by a rare snowstorm that day and the roads turned slick. No matter which way you entered our neighborhood, you had to go up a hill. My father tried and tried to get the Volkswagon Beetle carrying all five of us up the hill, but in the end, he had to put chains on the tires and that took some time. We had to stand outside in the snow and I was only about six or seven and was wearing a Christmas dress, white tights and black patent leather shoes. Although I also wore a coat, I learned the true meaning of COLD FEET that night! I’ve been a knee-sock lover ever since!:)

When I was five my Mom told
When I was five my Mom told me Santa had left my presents on the porch. I opened the door and there sat a shiny blue pedal car filled with presents. I was so excited I screamed.

I remember asking for a black patent leather purse that looked somewhat like an envelope. The flap came over the top and it had a silver half circle handle. I was given it early because Mom thought I'd like to use it to go to the church Christmas concert; and I did like it very much.

My sister and I work up real early to snoop under the Christmas tree to see what we had gotten and I was so upset because Santa had forgotten my doctor's kit. I cried myself back to sleep. When we woke up later that morning there under the tree where we had looked just hours before was my doctor's kit. Santa had returned to bring it to me...
