Sherryl - We as readers, don't really have a clue at what all happens after the book is written..we just enjoy
Camby - I need to get going as well. Thanks for chatting with us SusanA, and please come back again!
Susan Andersen - Night, Camby
Cissy - Night, Cam
Stacey - wb JMG
PattiL - Night Camby
Stacey - Night Camby
Sherryl - night Camby
Camby - C-ya!
Susanna2 - Night Camby!
Susan Andersen - That's a very good question, shy. I did after Baby, I'm Yours. I worry less so now. I can only write the book I write, if that makes any sense, so I'll try to inject humor where I can, but some plots don't lend themselves to humor as well as others
Celeste - Night Camby
Sherryl - ?
sooner - logged on - 6/7 at 10:14pm EST
Susan Andersen - one thing that's worked for me is that much of my humor comes from the dialog, and you can sneak some in even in the darker plots
Celeste - wb sooner
sooner - Pure Evil ' Puter
Susan Andersen - Even my older RS had quite a bit of humor
Susanna2 - wb Sara & sooner
Sherryl - you tell em Sooner
SaraReyes - nah, I hit the wrong key and lost my input panel. Sherryl, my email is SJREYES@writerspace.com -- I did NOT get yours
Susanna2 - Susan I have also really enjoyed your books. Have you always wanted to write and what other types of jobs have you had?
Debs - logged on. - 6/7 at 10:18pm EST
shy - ?
Celeste - Hi Debs
Susan Andersen - I've done a million other jobs out in the world. I was an auction coordinator, a bookkeeper, a receptionist
JMG - ?
Stacey - Hi Debs
Cissy - you sound like me, Susan
Susan Andersen - Writing's the only job I've stuck with for years and years and years
Susan Andersen - Yes, I LOVE my avon covers. My Zebra ones pretty much sucked, but they're getting it right the second time around
Sherryl - Speaking of Covers, The snappy BIY cover is what made me pick up you book as I had not read you before...I was soooooo happy with what was inside
Sherryl - sorry myrex, jumped to soon
Susan Andersen - Not really. I have what they call conver consultation, which generally means dick
PattiL - lol
ptolemyrex - LOL
Susan Andersen - Luckily for me, avon has a dynamite art department
ptolemyrex - Thanks
Susan Andersen - I was in NY in April and got to see one of my artist's cutpaper originals for Christie Ridgeway's next book. It was sooo cool. Lots and lots of detail
Sara has timed out.
Sherryl - I used my turn for a comment,,,
Cissy - Sherryl, if you still have a question you're up next. Sara will follow
Susan Andersen - whoops. spelled Christie's last name, I think. I'm usually pretty careful about that since everyone always spells my last name wrong
Sherryl - I'll just add for my last thought this, Susan I enjoy your work and will support your craft as long as you want to write. Thanks for all the hours of good reading
JMG - cissy, sara is timed out
Cissy - She's here as SaraReyes too
Susan Andersen - Thank you for buying and reading me. Love to know people who aren't related to me are enjoying my stuff
Susan Andersen - Mom, if you're lurking, that doesn't mean I don't love that you love my stuff too.
Sherryl - LOL, Susan
SaraReyes - my turn??
ptolemyrex - Good Night All. Susan thanks for you time with us keep on writing
Cissy - Yup
Susan Andersen - (even if she does think I write too much sex)
Celeste - go for it Sara
SaraReyes - Oh, sorry, First, I only bought your books because of the cover, so the move to Avon was well worth it!
Celeste - Night myrex
Susan Andersen - night, ptolemyrex
Sherryl - ?
Stacey - Night myrex
ptolemyrex -
- 6/7 at 10:27pm EST
Celeste - There is never too much sex (well, most of the time, but not in your books).
sooner - Nite ptolemyrex
Susan Andersen - The move has literally made all the difference in my career
Susan Andersen - yeah, well, you know mothers
Cissy - ?
Debs has timed out.
Susan Andersen - Um, actually, I'm unemployed at the moment. I just turned in the last book on my 2nd contract with them
Celeste - ?
Susan Andersen - They're having some big meeting with my agent
SaraReyes - oh, so we need to go out and buy, huh?
Celeste -
Only one question right now
Susan Andersen - love the blushing bashful look <g>
Susan Andersen - They seem to want me. What remains to be seen is if they want to pay a decent advance
Cissy - they don't dare lose you, susan
Susan Andersen - actually, I shouldn't be talking about this, so if there's an archive, Cissy, could that part be removed?
Susan Andersen - Did Celeste get her question?
PattiL -
Sherryl - nothing you say in here will hurt you....we all love you
Susan Andersen - Cool
Cissy - Not yet, susan, but she's in line
Cissy - Yep, Susan. I'll remove it from the transcript.
sooner - mums the word
Susan Andersen - Ok, wasn't sure if I missed it.
Celeste - I don't think it's my turn yet, SusanA
shy - Did you say that you had always composed scenes to put yourself to sleep? If so why do you think it work
shy - It would seem like the effort would keep you up.

Cissy - Night Sara
Celeste - Night Sara
Susan Andersen - shy, I'd just arrange my favorite images in my mind and before I knew it I'd be out. (boring, ya think?"
Susan Andersen - Night, Sara
Susanna2 - Night Sara!
JMG - I was wondering if you have a writing education in your background. Even if you love reading and you have the ideas, you have to know how to put in it writing.
shy - I also do that btw
and I don't understand why it works either.
sooner - Nite Sara
Susanna2 - ?
Susan Andersen - I think it worked because it was relaxing, like reading a favorite passage
shy - Nope! I don't think
shy - That is ok JMG. I posted mine before I had it all together.
JMG - did your editor helpyou a lot on your first book?
Cissy - Sherryl, you're up next. My question will follow
Sherryl - I have to be at my desk by 6 in the am so I am wishing you all a good night and Thanks Susan and Cissy for the chat

Ann - wb J!!
Celeste - wb J
Stacey - Night Sherryl
Stacey - wb J
Susan Andersen - yes and no. She and I fought to a stand still one thing she wanted me to change, which had more to do with the differences in our age/experiences than anything, I think
sooner - Nite Sherryl
Susan Andersen - cissy, I'm not getting that message
JMG - thanx susan.
Sherryl -
- 6/7 at 10:40pm EST
JMG - I think it is wonderful you take the time for this.
Susan Andersen - She was helpful in other areas, I should say
Cissy - oh well, I can ask it openly, Susan. Just seeing how much longer you can stay. We don't want to exhaust you.
Susan Andersen - How 'bout til quarter til? Then I gotta get something to eat
Susan Andersen - And JMG, I really enjoy talking with readers and other writers
Cissy - that works. We have 3 in line. After my question, Cel and Susanna post your and we'll wrap up.
J - logged on - 6/7 at 10:41pm EST
Cissy - You mention the move to Avon making such a huge difference in your career, but it kind of worked both ways. If I'm remembering correctly, Avon books (and Avon authors) experienced a tremendous surge in popularity starting with the release of BABY I'M YOURS. Was it all just a matter of synchronicity? All the good stuff coming together at one time? Besides the obvious (Avon has great authors), was there a particular push on Avon's part at that time? New marketing strategy? New cover artists?
Susan Andersen - I think the covers made a huge difference. Rachel Gibson and mine were two of the first, I think and that made them really stand out. Look how well Drive me Wild is doing for a brand new author. Part of that is really great packaging
JMG - ARC's?
Celeste - ARC = Advanced Reading Copy
Susan Andersen - They did something like 5000 ARCs for B,DG, because it's my first superleader with them and that helped land me on the NYT extended list and to break the top 50 of USAToday
Stacey - JMG, ARC's =Advance reader copies
Cissy - wow, 5000 ARCs!
Stacey - WOW
sooner -
- 6/7 at 10:46pm EST
Susan Andersen - Celeste, they make an offer, we accept or reject. It involves not only money but other aspects of the contract as well
Susanna2 has timed out.
Cissy - Congrats, btw!
Susanna2 - I'm here!
Celeste - Do you mean like how many books for a certain contract, etc?
Cissy - Susan, it looks like we lost Susanna, who had the last question
Cissy - Oops, there she is!
Susan Andersen - Thanks, Cissy. I'm genuinely thrilled with BabyIII's success. I'm a 10 year overnight success.
Susanna2 - Yes she is - LOL!!
JMG - lol susan a.
Susanna2 - Susan, thanks for chatting with us. What is the best and worst thing about being a writer?
Susan Andersen - The best thing is the writing and not having to commute. The worst thing is.... the writing when I have nothing to say. It's hard to just shut down and relax sometimes..
