O - Welcome Cassie
RobinDOwens - But you can hang around
RobinDOwens - - from 12.252.115.2 on 12/17 at 7:52pm EST
Cissy - Welcome everyone to our Harlequin Historicals chat. We're talking tonight with Katy Cooper about her latest release, LORD SEBASTIAN'S WIFE. We'll be working on protocol, so if you have questions for Katy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
O -
Cissy - Katy, before we go on to Q&A, will you tell us about LORD SEBASTIAN'S WIFE?
O - have some wine
KatyCooper - LORD SEBASTIAN'S WIFE is a sequel to my first book. Without knowing it, Sebastian Benbury and Beatrice Coleville made a binding betrothal one Twelfth Night. Five years later, they learn the truth--that they've been married this whole time. The problem is that they're more enemies than friends. Can they learn to trust again? Can love that seems dead revive? This was really the book of my heart and I'm very proud of it.
O -
Cissy - oh, it sounds really good, Katy!
Cissy - O has the first question (no one in line)
O - What is the first book title and do you have to read the first before the second
Mary f - Hello Vivienne
Cissy - Hi Vivienne Welcome to our Harlequin Historicals chat. We're talking tonight with Katy Cooper about her latest release, LORD SEBASTIAN'S WIFE. We'll be working on protocol, so if you have questions for Katy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
KatyCooper - The first book is PRINCE OF HEARTS, and, no, you don't have to read the first one. They're linked, but not that tightly.
Cissy - I know you guys have questions, now. Don't be shy
O -
Cissy - Margo! So glad you could make it
KatyCooper - Hello, Margo!
Mary f - Hello Margo
Cissy - Margo, will you tell us about NORWYCK'S LADY?
KatyCooper - Hello, Margo!
denise - Hi, Katy & all
Mary f - Hello Margret
O -
Cissy - 2 questions, O?
Margret - Feliz Navidad
O - Yes please
Cissy - Hi to those coming in Welcome to our Harlequin Historicals chat. We're talking tonight with Katy Cooper and Margo Maguire about their latest releases. We'll be working on protocol, so if you have questions for Katy or Margo, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
MargoMaguire - Hi everyone. Sorry I'm late - problems with my cable internet. If I suddenly disappear, it's them - not me!
Cissy - Margo, will you tell us about NORWYCK'S LADY?
Margret - - from 12.251.220.188 on 12/17 at 8:01pm EST
O - you don't like us
Cissy - Okay, let's go back to some questions while we wait for Margo
Cissy - O has the next question (O in line)
MargoMaguire - NORWYCK'S LADY is the story of Bartholomew Holton and Mairi Armstrong. Mairi washes up on Bart's shore after a shipwreck and has a few days of amnesia when she doesn't know who she is. But the Armstrongs are the Holtons' mortal enemies. It's set in 13th century England, near the Scottish border
Cissy - oh cool - thanks, Margo!
O - What inspired Katy and margo to write did you hear voices
KatyCooper - I just love to write--I love making language do what I want it to, say what I want it to say. I didn't think I could tell stories until I started writing PRINCE OF HEARTS, and then I realized I tell stories all the time.
KatyCooper - However, I
MargoMaguire - Gosh, I can't remember what set this story off in my mind. Usually, I read something in a reference book that triggers a "what if" scenario, and I get characters talking in my head!
KatyCooper - However, I'm hearing voices from the next story I'll write. That's a first.
Cissy - but that could be fun, Katy
Cissy -
Cissy - O has the next question (no one in line)
Cissy - Mac, Mary and denise, you going to let O get away with hogging all the questions?
KatyCooper - Yeah, I just need to find the story that goes along with the voices.
O - Katy how could they know that they were not married were they drunk
Mac - I never ask questions in here....
Cissy - well there's a first time for everything!
denise - lol - sorry, my kid just walked in
KatyCooper - In the middle ages, all it took to get married was to make a particular kind of promise in front of two witnesses. They were a little buzzed and they promised to marry one another in language that turned out to be binding.
Mary f - ?
Cissy - I think that sounds like a kick, Katy - is your book humorous or more dramatic?
denise - ?
O -
KatyCooper - It's definitely on the angsty side.
MargoMaguire - A little background on Norwyck - I was leary of writing an "amnesia" story, but Mairi realizes who she is soon after she arrives at Norwyck Castle. But she's afraid to tell Bartholomew, knowing how he feels about the Armstrongs. Plus, his wife committed adultery with an Armstrong, and he's pretty sour towards women in general.
Cissy - that's pretty good motivation to say silent, Margo!
Cissy - Mary has the next question (denise, O in line)
Mary f - What made you pick Historicals?
KatyCooper - I've been reading English history since I was 11 years old. When I started writing PRINCE OF HEARTS, I didn't even know contemporary romance (outside of Harlequin Romance) existed.
RobinDOwens - Hi, all.
KatyCooper - So for me it was a no-brainer.
Cissy - welcome back, Robin
Cissy - What about you, Margo?
Mac -
MargoMaguire - What made me pick Historicals? Kathleen Woodiwiss. Well... also the degree i got in history after I had my nursing degree.
RobinDOwens - BRB, I have some //pie waiting for me. I'm here to hold Cassie's hand when she comes back.
Mary f - That's great Katy!
Cissy - denise has the next question (O in line)
O - Hey Robin you have to share what kind of pie
Cissy - welcome back, Cassie
Mary f - WB Cassie
denise - Katy -- I love, love love this cover. K & M = what are you working on now? What's next?
O -
CassieMiles - Hi. Trying again
KatyCooper - Welcome back, Cassie!
KatyCooper - I love, love, love the cover too! I almost started crying when I saw it. I'm working on a story about two people who stumble into an affair that ends up causing more complications than they ever expected.
Cissy - Margo?
Cissy - O has the next question (no one in line)
MargoMaguire - NORWYCK'S cover? I'm extremely happy with it - it's so different from all my other covers. Great colors, and the heroine looking out over the sea. It's perfect. I think Harlequin has been doing a great job for Historicals in the last year or so.
O - Margo did they know that they were emimes when they were on the ship
Cissy - What are you working on now, Margo?
RobinDOwens - Marie Callendar's Cherry Crumb
KatyCooper - I have to say I love the cover to NORWYCK'S LADY too--so full of mystery and longing.
Cissy - sounds Robin
O - //tongue sounds great
O -
RobinDOwens - Very rich. I missed Katy's pitch.
Cissy - ?
Cissy - I'll have them both repeat their blurbs before we close, Robin
O - Margo did they know that they were emimes when they were on the ship
RobinDOwens - Thanks.
RobinDOwens - ?
Cissy - Cissy has the next question (Robin in line)
Cissy - Katy and Margo, will you each tell us about your favorite scenes from your new book?
O - Hey my question was not answered
Cissy - I'm afraid we might have lost Margo, O, so I was moving on
RobinDOwens -
KatyCooper - That's such a hard question to answer, Cissy--I'm flipping through a copy of the book looking for one that jumps out above the others...
O - sorry
RobinDOwens - LOL, Katy!
Cissy - lol, Katy - flip fast!
O -
Mac - hehehe
KatyCooper - ...But probably the moment when Sebastian tells Beatrice he loves her. Or the love scene at the end
Cissy - Katy
Cissy - Robin has the next question (O in line) queue is closed
RobinDOwens - My cat is eyeing my pie!
Mac - LOL @ Robin's
RobinDOwens - Katy, what are you working on next?
O - you have to share it with the cat
RobinDOwens -
KatyCooper - A story about a widow and a widower who meet in a secret lodge in the heart of a wood. One thing leads to another, and they're soon embarked on an affair. They both think it can't last, but that's not how it works out. Much trouble ensues.
O - That is a cake
RobinDOwens - Hmmm. Love trouble. What time period?
Cissy - welcome back, denise
Cissy - O has the last question
RobinDOwens - I didn't see any pie icon.
denise - argh - this is not fun! Stupid aol.
RobinDOwens - OOooops. Sorry. Another question
Mac - There's not one, Robin, so you do what you gotta do, right?
O - What do you want to write that you han't written before and do you have a website
KatyCooper - Early 16th century.
RobinDOwens - WB Denise
Mary f - WB Denise
RobinDOwens - Great.
KatyCooper - I want to write a romantic comedy and a straight fantasy. And yes I do have a website that is in dire and desperate need of updating. (Stupid life--why do you keep getting in the way! ). It's at www.katycooper.com.
