RobinDOwens - The Secrets She Keeps
CassieMiles - I've got 2: When the heroine informs her 11 year old son that he's a heir to a Mafia family, his response is: Cool! And a Cinderella night in Vegas with glamor and high-stakes gambling.
Cissy - LOL, Susan - they both sound like a hoot!
RobinDOwens - O, nope. Never had any dealings with nuns. Dad was an athiest.
Cissy - lol, Cassie - perfect 11-year-old response!
CassieMiles - I do like the nuns. Ran into Sister Shiela gambling in Central City (outside Denver). She won a jackpot. I figured divine intervention.
RobinDOwens - ?
O - Cassie
O -
Mary f - Hello Hunt
hunt4me48225 - brb
Cissy - Hi Hunt Welcome to our Harlequin Intrigue chat. We're talking tonight with Susan Kearney and Cassie Miles about their latest releases. We'll be working on protocol, so if you have questions for Susan or Cassie, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
RobinDOwens - Actually, O, Cassie writes so fast, that her crit buddies only see a few scenes...
SusanKearney - Hunt4me--cool nickname
MegaRead - I never thought to say that to my aunt when she won in Charles Town.
RobinDOwens - and I saw the nuns...
Cissy - Robin has the next question (O in line)
RobinDOwens - Of course, now that I think of it. I have 4 great aunts who are/were nuns.
hunt4me48225 - OK i give
CassieMiles - Heroine dresses up like a novice in the beginning. But the major nun returns in the end.
RobinDOwens - I have a nosey question for KatyCooper.
hunt4me48225 - hello Mary, Cissy
hunt4me48225 - Hello SusanK
RobinDOwens - Hi Hunt!
SusanKearney - Hunt, Love your nickname.
RobinDOwens - If Katy is still here....I can't recall how many words HH are any more. ?
KatyCooper - Unless Cissy has a problem with it, ask away!
Cissy - Katy? Still with us?
Cissy - no problem at all Katy
KatyCooper - Everyone keeps asking good questions, so I can't think of anything. Robin?
SusanKearney - Cissy's probably dying of curisity like I am
KatyCooper - I'm sorry, Robin, I missed your question. HHs are 95,000 words. The last time I saw guidelines they said more than that, but if you write a longer story and they buy it, you'll have to cut it. (It happened to me the first time out.)
RobinDOwens - Thanks.
SusanKearney - That's the NOSEY question? Page count????
RobinDOwens - Cutting is miserable for me.
RobinDOwens - Yes.
Cissy - sheesh, we could teach her a thing about nosey, right Susan?
RobinDOwens - No questions about sex life.
SusanKearney - Robin, I never cut anything, always come in short.
RobinDOwens - Hi, Val!
SusanKearney - Hi Val
Mary f - Hiya Val
KatyCooper - Cutting stinks to high heaven. That's why I try to make sure I don't go over...
Cissy - Hi Val Welcome to our Harlequin Intrigue chat. We're talking tonight with Susan Kearney and Cassie Miles about their latest releases.
hunt4me48225 - Hello Robin
Mac - At least I ain't the only one who comes in short....**sigh**
SusanKearney - Robin, how disappointing.
RobinDOwens - Distraction for Cissy
val - hi y'all
RobinDOwens - LOL at Susan
Mac - But mine's not intentional...
Cissy - Thanks Robin!
val - Susan read your book last night, I really liked it.
RobinDOwens - I always come out LONG.
SusanKearney - Mac, I get paid the same amount for writing short or long and writing long is more work.
Cissy - O has the last question
RobinDOwens - Now THAT
RobinDOwens - THAT'S the best reason I've heard!
Mac - I agree with you on that one.
SusanKearney - Val
CassieMiles - But I loooove to cut. Killing off all those extra words.
O - Who do you Susan and Cassie like to read when you get the chance
SusanKearney - Nora. She the master.
Mary f - What happens to the words on the cutting room floor?
val - now I've gotta persuade my dad next month to go and buy a romance book to find out who's the real heir!
SusanKearney - Oops--She's
Mary f - WB Carrie
val - Mary we have to wait for the dvd version with the deleted scenes!
RobinDOwens - Yes, finished listeneing to 3 Fates again today. Really good story.
SusanKearney - Val, Your Dad buys romance books for you? Super.
Carrie - thxs Mary
CassieMiles - Current favorite: Greg Iles. Right now, reading Francine Mathews, SECRET AGENT....love it! Mostly, I read everything.
RobinDOwens - Mary, they all creep back into the computer hard drive.
val - No but I won't be in florida and he will be - I'll be back in the UK and I have no intention of waiting a year!
CassieMiles - Val, you have a very good Dad!
Mary f - LMAO Val!
SusanKearney - The problem with writing a lot is that I don't get to read as much as I'd like.
val - he doesn't know about this plan yet! lol
RobinDOwens - Sorry, O.
Cissy - wow, our hour flew by! Susan and Cassie, thanks for a great chat!
Cissy - I'm not kicking anyone out, just bringing the chat to an official close
SusanKearney - Val, I think you'll have to bribe him.
Mac - Howdy, Trice
TriceCyn - Hi All
O - that is ok glad you like it
Carrie - Hi Trice
Cissy - And just in case anyone needs a reminder, Susan and Cassie will you tell us your titles again please?
CassieMiles - This was much fun. Now I have a new addiction!
RobinDOwens - Hi, Trice!
val - hi trice
RobinDOwens - Hi, Trice!
Mary f - Thanks for the wonderful chat ladies
KatyCooper - I had a great time just listening!
Mary f - CASSIE you did great!
CassieMiles - THE SECRET SHE KEEPS--January Intrigue
SusanKearney - Thanks everyone. Are there any last questions? And not about page count
RobinDOwens - ROTFLMAO at Cassie! I'll believe that when I see you here again!
Cissy - Thanks for hanging out with us, Katy!
O - is that writing or chatting
Carrie - Cool Cassie!
MegaRead - Wow,time does fly! Merry Christmas everyone. Have a safe and joyous holiday.
KatyCooper - I completely forgot this was a new thing for you, Cassie!
SusanKearney - ROYAL PURSUIT
CassieMiles - In the words of Arnold...I'll be back.
SusanKearney - Yeah, she's a pro!
val - tell me about it, I keep thinking that I'll have an early night - tomorrow I'm definitely going to KSC!
RobinDOwens - Chatting, O. Cassie writes like a demon.
Cissy - You did great, Cassie! Virgin no more

SusanKearney - Hi Bonnie, Glad to see you here.

KatyCooper - - from 68.160.37.78 on 12/17 at 9:42pm EST
Cissy - Susan you have to pop in to see us before April
BonnieJean Hamilton - oh man...did I miss the chat? //wniff

CassieMiles - You are a goddess, Bonnie.
RobinDOwens - I'll be looking for that dragon book in my mailbox (or on my porch).
SusanKearney - Bonnie you have any last minute questions before we go?
val - oh cool! I should be over in May.
BonnieJean Hamilton - I love the Intriques!!!!
Mary f - That whole line is great!
TriceCyn - brb
CassieMiles - Sending Dragon tomorrow with all other Christmas mailing.
SusanKearney - Val, Look for Daddy to the Rescue--it's one of my all time favorites.
RobinDOwens - OK!
BonnieJean Hamilton - Well...I don't know what everyone else asked...but...how do you figure out your plots to your stories?
Mary f - Let us know when that Dragon comes out Cassie!
RobinDOwens - I should just meet you for lunch.
val - Looking forward to it, when's that out?
SusanKearney - Cassie, Maybe the dragon book can go in the new HQ fantasy line.
CassieMiles - Robin..good plan.
BonnieJean Hamilton - Harlequin is going to have a fantasy line?
Celeste has timed out.
val - oh that's the April book? d'oh
SusanKearney - Val, April. Some books just resonate with an author and I really liked that one.
BonnieJean Hamilton - OMG...and does that include vampires?
CassieMiles - The fantasy line is what I'm hoping for, but I'm not sure if it fits. That's why I'm sending to Robin.
RobinDOwens - Bonnie, I don't think so. Alternate worlds.
O - no please no vampires
SusanKearney - YEs,Bonnie. Mary Teresa Hussy is in charge of it. They are looking for material but don't have guidelines yet.
BonnieJean Hamilton - oooo...cool
Mac - Vampires are wonderful.
Carrie - ladies I need to pop out and finish trying to figure out why my computers are NOT talking to each other
Carrie - nite
Carrie - - from 68.102.236.252 on 12/17 at 9:47pm EST
BonnieJean Hamilton - well...alternate worlds could have beings who are blooddrinkers
MegaRead - Alternate and/or parallel worlds?
CassieMiles - Bye Carrie.
SusanKearney - Bonnie, I don't know about vampires. They want magical worlds and fantasy like Lord of the Rings and historical paranormal.
O - nite
RobinDOwens - Hmmmm. My computers rarely talk to each other.
RobinDOwens - Correct, Mega.
BonnieJean Hamilton - hmmm....likes elves and fairies
val - This isn't a case of jumping on the bandwagon is it?
SusanKearney - Yes, Bonnie, elves and fairies
TriceCyn - ok back
TriceCyn - Hi Bonnie
CassieMiles - Robin is the Queen of Alternate Worlds.
RobinDOwens - But not necessarily romance. This is women's fantasy.
BonnieJean Hamilton - Hi Cyn..how is your mom? And how are you?
SusanKearney - Yes, Mega
Mary f - WB Trice
MegaRead - Oh, that should be interesting, too. Will you contribute to that line?
RobinDOwens - LOL Cassie....
RobinDOwens - I'm hoping.
SusanKearney - They want at leazt 30 percent romance.
Mary f - Vad says goodnight to y'all
SusanKearney - Mega, I'm thinking about it but I have no time.
MegaRead - Good nite!
TriceCyn - me?? doing ok went to RadioShack and got some new toys for myself moms doing good...they are looking for a bed in a Rehab Center...the one they want her at is full lol
BonnieJean Hamilton - NIght Mary
BonnieJean Hamilton - ooops..I mean Val
MegaRead - Oh, too bad!! But we still love the Intrigues! Keep those coming guys!
val - some of the best fantay has a bit of romance in it anyway - David Eddings comes to mind
val - - from 67.28.71.59 on 12/17 at 9:50pm EST
BonnieJean Hamilton - so you are over that virus, Cyn?
MegaRead - Oh, I should say "ladies."
RobinDOwens - Yes, with 10 books coming out!!! Yay, Susan!
BonnieJean Hamilton - yes...keep those intrigues coming
TriceCyn - Vad??? Mary
Mary f - WB Val
SusanKearney - I'm working on it.
val - got a dns problem
BonnieJean Hamilton - Susan..one question....how long does it take you to set up a plot for your book?
TriceCyn - nope...i DRAGGED my butt to RS sleep is the best think for this virus and drinking and washing my hands
RobinDOwens - And the Blazes, too!
SusanKearney - Bonnie, About an hour.
TriceCyn - WB Val
BonnieJean Hamilton - wow
Mary f - Yes Trice Vad couldn't get in the room so I was talking for her she could get into the auditorium
BonnieJean Hamilton - what inspires you when you set up your plot? do you do research?
SusanKearney - But that's just roughing out an idea. I don't plot much anymore. I try to do more thinking about the characters. Internal conflict is hard for me. Plooting is easy.
TriceCyn - oh ok
SusanKearney - Bonnie, I can take the frint page of a newspaper and usually come up with three plots.
RobinDOwens - Internal conflict IS hard, and so incredibly important!
BonnieJean Hamilton - cool!
SusanKearney - The writing part is hard, I just plod along at 6 pages a day.
O - Wow wonder women
BonnieJean Hamilton - yes....the initial confrontation between you male and female characters
SusanKearney - Robin, Sometimes if the external plot is strong enough I leave out an internal conflict.
Mary f - How long does it take you to finish a book?
RobinDOwens - My Mentor, Ms. Cassie, wouldn't let me do that .... or Sharon Mignerey of IM, either... I'm stuck with STRICT crit buddies.
SusanKearney - Mary, I like to take off Sundays. So about 71/2 weeks.
CassieMiles - Ok, came back with more coffee. Looks like interesting discussion.
SusanKearney - HQ likes their authros to write fast.
RobinDOwens - I didn't say NOTHIN bad about you!!!
BonnieJean Hamilton - Well Robin...I hope you will be a strict critique with my work.
O - Do they crack the whip Robin
SusanKearney - Robin, It's best to stick with the rules and learn, then break them after you get published.
RobinDOwens - They sure point out where there isn't any conflist.
MegaRead - Now, that sounds like good advice!
val - lol - kinda like driving!
MegaRead - Not only in writing either!
SusanKearney - Val, There you go!
Mary f - LMAO yeah all rules are made to be broken!
RobinDOwens - Conflict
Mac - Hi, Rod
Mac - And YES I am writing.
RobinDOwens - Hi, Rod!
Mary f - LMAO Val yeah I heard about that!
SusanKearney - And the longer an author writes for a line, the more they trust her. Which means you can get away with more rule breaking.
Mary f - Hello Rod
CassieMiles - Internal conflict leads me into problems. I tend to go into bitch mode.
SusanKearney - Mac, What do you write?
RobinDOwens - LOL
R C - Hello
MegaRead - Or perhaps make those rules outdated.
TriceCyn - HI RC
SusanKearney - Mega, I'm working on it.
Mac - A little of it all...working on a paranormal at the moment...that I HOPE to get published.
val - Once you've made the bucks for them then they're more likely to allow leeway - especially if you have a following.
SusanKearney - But certain rules are there because they work.
RobinDOwens - Our whole crit group jumps on the internal conflict problems.
BonnieJean Hamilton - well...I really would love to have my work published...I am so glad I found RWU..thanks to Robin
CassieMiles - Mac..what's your paranormal about
SusanKearney - Val, That's true. And an experienced editor really helps.
O - Ok what are the rules ladies
RobinDOwens - You're welcome, Bonnie. I hang around, but don't crit much.
MegaRead - Dont' think you have far to go. Look what Nora did for trilogies.
Mary f - Do the characters you've written about linger in your mind, after you've written the book?
R C - Mac's paranormal is
Mac - Shapeshifter...and a conservationist that's sent in to study the wolves for reasons he's not aware of.
CassieMiles - The rules: Keep it simple, keep it moving.
Mac - Ahhhh, Rod....
RobinDOwens - Absolutely.
MegaRead - I have a question about psuedonyms. Why did publishers require writers to use them rather than their real names?
CassieMiles - Werewolves?
SusanKearney - Robin, I have a book I'm going to write without internal conflict. The hero is from the future. he falls in love, gets the heroine pregnant and must return to his own time. That's enough conflict.
RobinDOwens - Sure.
Mac - Nah, not a werewolf...she can take any shape.
hunt4me48225 - Rules?? OK OK i havent been paying attention
SusanKearney - Mega, So the publisher could stop you from going elsewhere and taking readers with you. It didn't work. Fans are too smart.
RobinDOwens - I think Cassie/Kay can answer that one.
val - To follow on from Mary, have any of you wanted to revisit and carry on the characters to another book?
CassieMiles - Pseudonyms--not required as far as I know.
O - Does he know that she is pregrant Susan
CassieMiles - Shapeshifter should be fun with sex.
BonnieJean Hamilton - well Mega...I write under the name of BonnieJean Hamilton (BonnieJean being a nickname given to me by my mom and Hamilton being my maiden name)
Mac - I'm having a blast with her.
SusanKearney - O, I haven't decided yet. What do you think would be best?
RobinDOwens - Val. I use my hero and heroine from HeartMate (and the cat) as secondary characters in Heart Thief. You'll still see them, care about them, and know what's going on with them.
Mac - I have two pen names...
CassieMiles - YES!!! I have characters I want to bring back. ELVIS for one.
Mary f - LMAO Cassie! Great choice~
SusanKearney - I usually prefer to create new characters because it's so hard to remember the old ones.
RobinDOwens - More ELVIS?
O - I think it is better if he doesn't know so he wont come out being bad
val - I would say yes he knows, gives him more incentive.
Mac - Hey, I have written 7 pages while in chat tonight, so I ain't doing too bad.
MegaRead - Why the different names? To differenitate the lines published in?
RobinDOwens - Mary, Cassie did a series with a mysterious Elvis a while back....
CassieMiles - Always more Elvis...
SusanKearney - O, He has no choice. He has no control of being zapped back to the future.
Mac - I made myself a notebook with all my characters and their descriptions in it.
R C - Mega, I write under my own name. although it was suggested I use a different one
SusanKearney - Ah, Mac you are organized. I'm not.
Mac - I'm using McKenzie Parker for my contemps and the few historicals I have, and Jolie Gryphon for paranormal/fantasy books.
RobinDOwens - It would make him more tortured if he knew -- more conflicted.
Mary f - Cassie is your backlist posted anywhere?
val - so Mac you've finished the e's?
TriceCyn - Because you being male Rod???
Mac - Hey, I just did that...I kept chaning hair color, and NOT in seperate books...the same one....**rolling eyes**
R C - yes
SusanKearney - Oooh, Robin you are bad.
Mac - I have one book completed and 1 that I'm around half done with.
CassieMiles - Backlist probably on Amazon.
RobinDOwens - Mary -- eharlequin might have info
Mac - 1 for each pen name....lol
SusanKearney - Mary, You can go to Amazon for any author's backlist. Just type in a name.
TriceCyn - that's nuts Rod
RobinDOwens - What were the Elvis books named, Cassie?
CassieMiles - Oh, right. eHarlequin would know.
Mary f - Thanks!
SusanKearney - Hey, all kids are calling. Got to go. Enjoyed it.
