This is Book 1 of my new series, Band of Bachelors. I wanted to write about a group of SEALs who were great at what they did in the arena, but had difficulty in their personal lives at home. Just as the Bad Boys of SEAL Team 3 were about three men who had redeemed themselves after troubling childhoods, these men in the Band of Bachelors series will all find their Happily Ever After, later in life, after their career as a Navy SEAL has caused or exacerbated problems with their wives.

I like the idea that a big strong guy can be full of contradictions, but will never write Navy SEALs who don't rise to the occasion and do the right thing. Readers have come to expect this from me. So, although the SEALs may have made mistakes, they eventually, and with the right woman, get it right.

I got this idea from my son, believe it or not. He was a film student in New York, at NYU, during the 9-11 crisis. My husband came back home after getting him situated in the big city, where he wanted to be "at the center of the world." Don was scheduled to go back on the plane from Newark to San Francisco later, but decided to go home a week earlier. The next week, 9-11 happened and that flight he was scheduled on wound up in a field in Pennsylvania.

After some successful years in New York, my son left to go to the Sundance Film Festival, to enter his student short, and to work with other NYU students and possibly get picked up to work on a big budget film. He worked the ski slopes and lived in a home with several older men, all bachelors and avowed women haters. I understand the house was always a mess, there was an abundance of alcohol.

I always enjoyed hearing my son's descriptions of these men and their problems, until one day, he told me he had to get out of there, "because I'm starting to believe them." He figured if he ever wanted to get married and have a happily ever after, he would need to escape. My son-in-law did a stealth rescue and my son has never left California since.

I tell you this because that's where we get our stories, as writers. We take family history and things that pique our own interest, and blow them up into stories. (Caution to all my friends, is it likely you'll be in one of my books some day? Yes. But you won't recognize yourself, I promise!)

Hope you'll continue the journey as each of the Brothers in the bachelor pad falls, and finds his happily ever after.

RomCon Roundup

One of the most memorable parts of my trip to Denver was to get to meet and talk to Jodi Thomas, who was the keynote speaker this year. What I loved from her talk was the story she told about her grandmother and mother: "My grandmother was a quilter. My mother was a quilter. I am a quilter of words."

Being a quilter myself, I can relate. I got to be on a couple writer panels with Jodi and several other writers I respect tremendously. I was also honored that my Pirate Storyteller, J.D. Hart, came and helped me, especially at the book signing, which was the highlight for me.

April Allen helped us do the pin the junk on the hunk, at the bachelorette party I helped to host. I was irreverent as usual and went in my costume: a pregnant bride. Well, I wanted to be noticed, and I think it worked!

Pin the Hunk!

Here comes the bride!

Nashville Was Nice!

I always enjoy getting to hang out with my storyteller, J.D. Hart. It was a double treat to be able to have him share some awesome points on audio books (and we gave away a bunch too on USB drives) at the IRC Convention. Met some new authors for me, and lots of new as well as old, favorite fans and readers. Nashville is indeed nice to me every time I go.

Also got to have lunch with J.D.'s beautiful and talented wife, Cherokee. I hated to go back home...

New Trips Coming Up:

 [KallypsoCon 2015]

I'll be attending KallypsoCon in a couple of weeks, along with seven other great military romance authors. It will be held Halloween Weekend, in Nashua, New Hampshire. I have a craft that we will be doing with readers, something people can make for themselves or others, and something that's very personal.

I believe they still have a few spots open, so if you find yourself in the greater Boston area that weekend, and want to dress up, come on down and join us. The link will take you to the information.

New Releases

 [cover: True Navy Blue]

Order now:
 [Amazon] [Audible]

We had our newest audio release, with J.D. Hart's masterful storytelling of True Navy Blue, which was my submission in the Protect and Serve Anthology, which also came out last month. This is a stand alone novella, but the two main characters, Zak and Amy, will be the hero and heroine in the next series: True Blue SEALs.

If you haven't gotten your copy, for only .99 you can still obtain Protect and Serve, an awesome collection of rookie cops and special ops, never before published NYT and USA Today authors. It won't be here for long, and the price will rise before it's taken down.

Also, Romancing The Military Man anthology is still out, giving you ten hot military heroes: the right men for the job. These are full length novels and again, only available for a short period of time.

Coming in November, Sharon will be putting her Ultimate SEAL Collection 2 boxed set out. It is due to hit Amazon on 11/9/15. It contains the three full length books Cruisin' for A SEAL, SEAL of My Heart and SEAL My Destiny, all for a special low price of $6.99. It's a great way for you to catch up on older SEAL Brotherhood books, or refer your friends to them.

Ask Sharon:

The question Jennifer Cowan asked, "What genre do you like in your "free" time? Who is your inspiration when writing your SEALs?

Thank you, Jennifer. I often get asked this question of what I read, and I have to admit I don't get a lot of time to read. I used to read a lot of paranormals, as that's where I came to romance from Anne Rice's books, then going into the Twilight and Outlander Series, and then finding my way to Kressley Cole and Nailini Singh and others. I didn't grow up reading romance (my mother would have made me go live elsewhere).

Now as a writer, so much of my day is working on the little details of the business, that I don't have the free time I used to. So I'm usually reading a reference book on SEALs, or on love and relationships. This is the one part of my current journey I am not happy with, because I have a lot of friends I would like to read, and never have time for. And, I'm a very, very slow reader. Manuals and long instruction forms don't register, due to a learning disability.

The one writer who inspired me to start writing SEALs was Suzanne Brockman. My favorite book of hers is The Admiral's Bride, a book that came out in 2007 and is sometimes hard to find in print. Loved that book to death. It's right up there with Outlander for me. The hero is a man who served as a SEAL with the heroine's father in Viet Nam, and he thinks he's too old for her (his wife has died), but she has other plans. I tell Suzanne this every time I see her, am honored to call her friend.

Be sure to ask your question. If you get picked, you will receive a book of your choice in any format.

Enjoy your prize, Jennifer! Please email me your book title and preference of format.
